The Structure of Foreign Trade in Machinery and Equipment Continues to Improve
Global engineering construction investment rebounded in 2026, driving steady growth in imports and exports of general machinery, heavy construction equipment and automated industrial devices. The total foreign trade volume of the machinery sector is expected to surpass 1.3 trillion US dollars for the whole year, with exports accounting for nearly 80% and the trade surplus expanding continuously. Product structure shows prominent upgrading. Construction machinery including excavators, loaders and road maintenance machines are in high demand for infrastructure projects across Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Supported by complete industrial chain matching, cost performance and rapid after-sales support, their overseas recognition rises year by year. High value-added mechanical and electrical products such as automated assembly lines, CNC machine tools, complete packaging lines and wastewater treatment environmental equipment register the fastest export growth to developed economies in Europe, Oceania and Central and Eastern Europe, reversing the previous export structure dominated by low-end machinery. Deepened implementation of the RCEP boosts regional industrial synergy. Accelerated industrialization across ASEAN countries with numerous factory expansions and industrial park launches generate massive procurement demand for production equipment, spurring frequent trade in mechanical spare parts within the bloc. External obstacles mainly include inconsistent national access standards, import quotas and technical inspections imposed by some economies, as well as capital pressure from fluctuating ocean freight rates. To break through bottlenecks, traders increase investment in international safety and energy efficiency certifications, localize voltage, working conditions and operation interfaces for target markets, and cut tariff costs through offshore warehousing and overseas assembly. In the medium and long term, intelligence, new energy application and complete large-scale system delivery will be three major upgrading trends for international machinery trade. Machinery products capable of delivering integrated solutions, remote operation and maintenance and global spare parts supply will secure a leading position in global industrial competition.
